April 2010 – Brodrick

April 13th, 2010

April showers always bring May flowers. However this year April brought our latest addition to Brett and Kate’s family! Brodrick Alton Henry made his debut on April 8 2010 at 7:21pm. He weighed 8lbs 14 oz (almost a half lb bigger than his brother) and was 21.5 inches long! The 4 of us are adjusting to life with Brody well. At the moment Martin is playing some music for Brody to enjoy while he is sleeping. Martin is still over the moon about his little brother. The only “negative” thing Martin has said is that Brody is loud when he cries.

Another quiet month hibernating. Well at least Kate is. Martin loves to play snow and begs to go outside all the time. All 4 of us are healthy and the boys are growing, growing, growing.

Well it was almost a quiet month! Kate got stuck in the snow and then got rear ended. As Brett was coming to the rescue…he slid into a large snow bank. Thank goodness all he needed was a little push to get out. No one was hurt but Martin and Kate were shaken up. Brody was literally shaken up but he is doing just fine.

We are in the 6 week home stretch. Before we know it, Brody will be here and once again life will never be the same. Then again….when is life ever the same?

December 2009

December 28th, 2009

I can’t believe 2009 has come and gone. It has been an interesting year. Kate started a new position at her company and Brett’s company has been restructing eventually landed Brett a new position in December 2009. Martin went from 1 to 2 and boy has he changed. He talks like never before much of it is still not understandable but we are getting there. Martin is becoming more coordinated and agile. He is also starting to really look like a little boy instead of a toddler.

December was a busy month as we celebrated Judy’s birthday, shopping, baking, and decorating for Christmas. We also found out we are having baby boy#2 and his full name will be Brodrick Alton Henry (he will be called Brody). Martin is understanding now more than ever that there is a baby in Kate’s belly and he will hug, kiss and rub Kate’s every growing belly. Martin found a new love this month: Frosty. I think we are going to be watching Frosty in July. We also moved Martin into his new room and he absolutely loves it. He likes to play and read in his room.

We celebrated Christmas in Wellington and then headed down to the McCoy’s to celebrate on 12/26. We had a nice time. Martin recieved all kinds of goodies from Santa, parents, grandparents, aunts, & uncles. He really isn’t sure which toys to play with 1st.

On to 2010!!!

November 2009

December 3rd, 2009

November and couldn’t have picked a better weekend. It was in the mid 60s and didn’t get extremely cold at night. Although Brett does enjoy his cold weather camping.

Kate had another doctor’s appointment and all is well. Baby #2 is as much of a mover as Martin was (and still is). The baby is getting nice and big as is evident by Kate’s every growing belly.

We spent Thanksgiving in Wellington with Kate’s parents, grandparents, and uncles and brothers. It was a nice day and we all had some good food to eat. Martin had a blast playing with papa. The following Saturday we gathered at the McCoys to celebrate Grandma Flo’s birthday. Uncle Thomas and Aunt Deb were in from West Virginia. We had a nice time visiting with everyone.

On to December and Christmas!!!

October 31st, 2009

What a busy month! Brett, his dad & brothers, and our neighbor have been working hard on the basement. In just 1 month the basement has been rewired, new lumber put in and the drywall is up. Brett and Tracy even got most of the mudding done. The next step is to sand and paint.

The new baby is growing big and Kate is loving being 2nd trimester. The 1st trimester was rough. By the end of the month Kate is starting to get some energy back and is able to eat a wider variety of foods than before.

Martin turned 2 this month and what a big boy he is. He talks in 2-3 word sentences even though most of what he says is not understandable. He certainly can say the most important words like Cake. 8)  He has grown so much over the past year and has transformed before our eyes. He is currently 3ft .5in tall and weighs in at 29lbs. Martin did have a first this month, he peed on the potty for the very first time. Martin was supposed to go trick or treating for the 1st time this year but the swine flu got him a few days before Halloween. Brett subsequently succumbed to that nasty bug. Thankfully both had mild cases and recovered in a couple of days. They both still have lots of congestion and coughing. We are also grateful that Kate was able to get vaccinated before the swine flu entered our house.

Brett celebrated his birthday this month as well. Unfortunately we were all sick for this! We all were getting over colds and then Brett got a stomach virus the day before his birthday.  We did manage to go out to eat but none of us were feeling particularly well. So with all the sickness in our house, we are disinfecting like crazy from top to bottom.

On to November!

September 2009

October 17th, 2009

September was a quiet month for us. Grandma DeGroot came to Columbus for a few days and we celebrated her birthday along with Kate and Brett’s. We gathered at Tracy and Rebecca’s for the party and everyone had a good time eating and socializing. Brett and Martin also went up to Grandma & Grandpa McCoy’s for a little more time with Great Grandma DeGroot.

Brett also started remodeling the basement this month by tearing out the wood paneling and rewiring the basement. Kate had her 2nd prenatal appointment and all is well with Mama and baby.

August 2009

September 2nd, 2009

Brett, Kate and Martin got some very exciting news at the beginning of August. We are expecting baby #2 in April!!! Martin is 22 months. Can you believe he is almost 2? Our big boy has a lot of major changes coming his way, he will be starting to potty train, be moving to a new room, and adjusting to a new baby in the house. Martin’s most recent accomplishment is learning to dress and undress himself. He still needs a lot of help but it won’t be long before he does it on his own. He has also been learning about shapes, colors, and numbers. Martin has his 1st favorite color: blue.

Kate had her surgery and everything went great! She was sore for a few days but nothing out of the ordinary. Brett has been working a lot of overtime this month. He had to get so many hours of OT for the month to get a $150 GC to a place of his choice and he did it!! Brett sacrificed a lot of time at home to do it. Kate’s cousin Mandy got married on 7/31. It was a nice ceremony and reception. We enjoyed spending time with family that we don’t often get to see. We got to spend time with Kate’s mom, Uncle Jeremiah and his girlfriend, Uncle Paul and Aunt Brenda, and cousins Alex and Ella at the zoo. They all had a wonderful time looking at all of the animals, especially the tiger!

Martin is turning into a daredevil. He is now jumping off of things and purposely falling off the couch. Martin loves driving his trucks around the living room. Martin loves to read books and loves it when mama and daddy read to him. He would probably sit with books for hours if we let him. Martin had a his 1st trip to urgent care after he tripped and fell in our driveway. Thankfully he didn’t need any stitches and his cut has healed nicely. Martin is becoming a big helper around the house. He helps put away toys and clothes, and unloads the dishwasher. Martin is learning to put on and take off his clothes. He still needs a lot of help.

Kate started taking Tai Chi classes. We also celebrated Kate’s brother Dave’s 27th birthday at the Winking Lizard. Grandpa started a new type of chemo last month and so far so good. He has been running around being his old ornery self. Kate’s Grandparents celebrated 54 yrs of marriage and to celebrate all the kids pitched in to buy them tickets for a hot air balloon ride.  They both enjoyed the ride and even want to do it again.

We took our 1st step in remodeling the basement. Ross, Brett, and Dave put in a new electric box. This is a nice upgrade from the original 1965 box. The next step will be to tear out the paneling and rewire the basement. Fun Fun Fun!!!

Martin got his 15th tooth and is 20 months old!!! He only has 5 more teeth to go before he has a full set! Martin is adding new words to his vocabulary and is up to about 50 words and counting. Martin also went into the big pool in Wellington and had a blast jumping off the side and splashing in the water. Brett and I officially have a little fish on our hands.

March 30th, 2009

Martin popped in his 11th tooth this month and is working on the 12-14!!! He is trying to climb up on everything. He hasn’t quite made it up onto anything without help. Martin’s new thing is kisses! That was an amazing day when I got that 1st slobbery kiss. I felt like I could fly. Martin can now sign Thank You, Eat, Drink, More, and he is learning Help and Please. He is also starting to repeat everything you say, so you really have to watch what you say when Martin is around. Kate did it!! She lost the final 10lbs of her pregnancy weight and is still going. Now Kate gets to go clothes shopping!!!
